Winter on the Lake

In the winter, we trade our loons for snow geese and once the ice on the lake has frozen solid, there are many popular activities to enjoy, including snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross country skiing and skating.

The outdoor fun and excitement in and around White Lake does not end when the warm, long, relaxing days of summer come to an end. The winter months offer the outdoor enthusiast with a long list of activities. From snowmobiling on hundreds of kilometers of trails to skiing, tubing and ice fishing, you'll want to be outside in the winter.

Ice Bridge

There is a well marked naturally forming ice bridge route from Cedar Cove Resort to the White Lake Marina. It is 12Km, and takes about 20 min. traveling between 30 - 50 Km/hr.

Safety should always be a concern, so be aware of your surroundings and others using the lake. If possible travel during the daylight and watch out for snowdrifts.

Snowmobiling

The Calabogie and District Snowmobile Club has 255 km of meandering trails that serves the Calabogie, Arnprior and White Lake area and connects to Ontario's TOP ‘E' and TOP ‘A' Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs trail System.

White Lake is surrounded by hundreds of kilometers of groomed snowmobile trails that pass through small villages, along abandoned rail beds and wind through the picturesque winter scenery.

Ice Fishing

If you are equipped and know what you are doing, the lake has an abundance of Pickerel, Pike, Bass and Perch.

Skating

When the conditions are good, and there is not too much snow on the ice, you could foreseeably skate from one end of the lake to the other.

Alpine skiing / snowboarding

For those looking to hit the slopes and spend some time at a ski hill, White Lake is in the middle of two great local resorts, Calabogie Peaks and Mount Pakenham which both offer skating, cross-country ski trails and tubing too.

Memories of the White Lake and Area by Janice (Jan) Andrew,
White Lake: The Later Years

I fondly recall the early days of snowmobiling with the McHughs, Lorne, Maisie, Ellen, Kevin and John Henry and Nell and Art Duff of Spruce Hedge. I remember leading a rally back to the K & P trail and north from Clyde Forks through Mud Lake and Darling Long Lake down the north shore of White Lake noting the heron nests in the pines before landing safely back with all the crew at the village. I had my picture in the Arnprior Chronicle! Those were the days.
